Coachella Day 3 - Cory Kennedy

coachella day 3

got there in the afternoon, and sat down and watched stars which was interesting becuase i also had never seen them live and had been a fan for quite a while... walked over to see autolux for a few minutes and then went over to does it offend you yeah. those boys can rock an audience. i ran into old friend peter katsis as he was helping with new talent kidsister. saw some kidsister and jolted over to metric. metric was so disappointing. the one thing i hate most when going to see shows is when the artists play predominately new songs. its not that i dont want to hear the new stuff, its just that i always like to be familiar with music beforehand seeing it live or it dosnt so much for me.

after waiting for metric to play even an upbeat new song, i had to bail. to go hang with sia before she went on. sia opened with wearing black cloaks and neon tape representing smiley faces. the second song sia had giovanni ribisi's daughter sing with her which was so adorable. gio of course back stage supporting. sia is such an amazing person to know and her fantastical personality definitely breaks through in her music which is so strong, beautiful, and funky at the same time.

then what i had really been waiting for roger waters. walked over with eugene from autolux to experience such a phenomenal performance.....seriously gave me goosebumps just like in dark side of the moon with the back round of the wind blowing or the wall with the ticking tocking of the clock sounds made me feel like i was inside of the song. it sounds bizarre but it was such a amazing refreshing feeling.

from there to justice which had me stunned by how magnetic the music was. it was like uncontrollable. which was the last band for the last night was the perfect choice to wrap up coachella 08.

now im off to go on the 1st nylon magazine summer music tour with she wants revenge, the virgins, be your own pet, and the switches for 6 week across america. living in a tour bus and documenting the tour will be a handful but i have a feeling also a wonderful and memorable time. till next time lovers....

Coachella Day 2 - Cory Kennedy

coachella day 2waking up at the frank sinatra house isnt so shabby. went for a quick dip with jeremy in the piano shaped pool... which keys show up with the sun and architecture of the house.

rushed over with uffie because she was performing at 1:30 with dj mehdi. we got there literally just in time for her to change, have a drink and run on stage. steve aoki, andre, jeremy, and all of ed banger were there supporting her backstage. the teenagers were on at the same time playing in the next tent so i ran over with photographer matt irwin to say hi to our teenaged friends. it was so hot so we all went back to uffies trailor to sit in the air conditioning for a while.

went to go see minus the bear for a song and then went to go see MGMT who ive seen many times but they never get old. theyre live performances are so cultivating and magical. i really wanted to catch devotchka because ive never seen them live but didnt have the chance. got some food and then headed over to hot chip where everyone was. ran into dj am and we pushed are way through the side stage front. hot chip was outstanding. definitely one of the top performances of coachella. kraftwerk was kraftwerk so nerdy and fun. after the recent death of kraftwerks drummer, i was afraid they wouldnt play coachella but they did and i really appreciated that. so bascailly.

MIA stole the show. stoooole the show. i was dancing on stage with jeremy and uffie, along with a few people which was amazing. i loved the gun shot noises from paper planes that they continually mixed the whole time. it kept the audience on their toes and so worked up for more. jeremy and co went to yelle but i was exhausted so i went with steve to go hang out with the mgmt boys. then straight to jeremys party where sam speigel, so me, and pedro djed.

Coachella Day 1 - Cory Kennedy

coachella day 1arrived with the ed banger crew and jeremy scott just as the sun was setting and the raconteurs were playing. i got to catch a song and a half and jack white was amazing. i wish i had seen more, but thats the crazy, overwhelming thing about coachella. theres so many amazing bands and things going on all at once its so hard to choose what to see, so usually you see bits and pieces of everything. after ran over to datarock for a second, and then ran over to meet up with andrew and ben from MGMT. we went to go watch the verve. im not a die hard-fan of the verve's music other than of course bittersweet symphony which they obviously closed with and sounded oh so 'bitter-sweet'. went back to andrew and bens tour bus for a second and went over to fatboy slim because of course i wasnt going jack johnson. i still have no idea how he got to headline coachella. no one does. i was hoping to rock out to some old fatboy jams but unfortunately that didnt happen... i was kind of bummed but it was fun anyway.
